Retainers in Long Beach, CA

About Retainers

Although braces help to create a beautiful smile, a retainer helps to maintain it long-term. Retainers can either be removable or fixed, but both allow for great support and structure to uphold teeth alignment. At Emigh Dental Care, we provide attentive, quality care to ensure that a patient's new smile is well taken care of. Therefore, once a full dental exam is performed, we will take a mold of the teeth to create a custom-fitted retainer that is unique to their profile. Retainers are often made of clear plastic or rubber to ensure the best comfort possible. Call our family dental practice today in Long Beach, CA to make an appointment for customized retainers today.

What to expect

Once the braces are removed, our dentists will take a mold of the patient's newly straightened teeth. The mold will then be sent off to a certified dental laboratory to create uniquely designed retainers. Once our office receives the custom retainer, we will set up a secondary appointment, where patients will be fitted for their retainer. During this time, we will be able to examine the fit to ensure the retainers feel as comfortable as possible. If there aren't any issues, patients will be sent home with their retainer.

treatment aftercare

Wearing a retainer on a regular basis is essential to upholding the new position of the teeth. If a retainer is not worn as instructed, a patient's teeth can shift, which will reverse all the months of reconstruction the braces created. No one wants their gorgeous new smile to be altered after all the time and pain they went through with wearing braces. Therefore, routine wear and proper maintenance of the retainer is imperative. Over time, the retainer will go through normal wear and tear and may need to be replaced. Patients should bring their retainer with them to their yearly dental exams so our dentists can examine the condition of the retainer.
